Queensland Sizzler restaurants have been closing down and one of the last ones has finally closed its doors in Cleveland earlier this month. Prior to the closing, Collins Foods Limited (CFL) has submitted a development application to the Redland City Council in June to build a Taco Bell on the site.
Reactions From The Local Community
Prior to the closure of Sizzler, the store saw an influx of customers. Some even asked if there was any way to prevent the store from closing. The staff also reported a number of first-time customers who visited their store.
Some families took their children to the store to make them experience one of Australia’s popular food joints before it closes for good.
Taco Bell in Australia is optimistic to see the same support from the customers once their new Tex-Mex branch is built.
The Growing Success Of Taco Bell
CFL follows a certain pattern when it comes to their fast food chains. In Annerley, their Taco Bell is next to their KFC restaurant. Should their plan for the Tex-Mex restaurant be approved by the council, it will also be adjacent to an existing KFC restaurant in the area.
They also just received an approval for a Taco Bell in North Lakes, thus the new franchise in Cleveland may be its third in southeast Queensland.
CFL’s first stand-alone Taco Bell is in Annerley. However, this is not the first time that the Tex-Mex restaurant tried to break into the Australian market. It was in the 80s when it first came in, however, it withdrew when it was ordered to change its name. The restaurant returned in 2007 and left in 2005.
Now that they are back in the Australian market, it looks like the Tex-Mex giant is doing well with the positive feedback that it’s getting from its branch in Annerley.
