The Palaszczuk Government has allocated a budget of $250 million to support additional classrooms and facilities for Queensland’s education as part of their 2020 Ready program and Redlands schools are getting a share of the budget.
Alexandra Hills State High will receive $4.2 million which will be used for a new two-storey secondary learning centre, whilst Cleveland District State High will build a three-storey secondary learning centre at a cost of $14.7 million.
State MP for Capalaba Don Brown said that the funds from the 2020 Ready program will help their first full complement of secondary students in Years 7 to 12.
“In 2020, for the very first time in Queensland’s history, our high schools will have a full complement of students across all six year levels. Our Government’s $250 million boost will ensure schools across Queensland can accommodate the additional students expected in our high schools in 2020 and into the future,” Mr Brown said.
The 2020 Ready Program funds will support additional 17,000 students all over the state. Education Minister Grace Grace said that this program is the mark of the next phase of major education reforms in Queensland.
The first education reform was implemented in 2007 with the introduction of prep whilst the second reform came in in 2015 when Year 7 students were moved into high school thus establishing a six-year secondary education.
“This new $250 million investment for additional classrooms will prepare those schools identified as requiring additional capacity for the additional students expected in 2020,” Minister Grace said.
